AMITY RETRIEVED HER hand and moved down the decoration aisle. She shouldnât give Walker the wrong impression. They were just rekindling an old friendship, werenât they? And it wouldnât do to mess things up between them.
Yet, why did her heart not like the idea of just friendship?
Walker was everything she wanted in a manâeasy going, down to earth. His looks were another plus. He was far from the young boy that used to tease her on-end, the one she crushed on for so long.
She looked around. Sheâd never seen anything this huge and all just Christmas decorations. What did they sell the rest of the year? At least, this wasnât the North Pole where it was Christmas all year round.
âWhere are we starting from?â
Glancing at her list, she looked ahead, trying to lasso her jumbled thoughts. âI think we could start here.â She pointed to the twinkling lights.
âI was laboring under the impression we may not get all we needed here, but looks like they just stocked up for Christmas.â
Amity looked around again. âSure looks like it.â She picked out the decorations and added more into the cart as they went down the list. They chatted with ease. She liked his quick wit, comfortable smile. About an hour later, they had all the things they needed.
Walker glanced at his wristwatch. âAre you up for more shopping? I need to pick up groceries. Weâll have a full house before the weekend is over.â
âWhat do you have in mind? Ronnie bought some groceries just now.â
Walker produced another list. âWhat you and Ronnie bought is for when my family arrives. I came prepared just in case we have time.â
âI noticed a grocery store next door.â
âYes. I need to ring this up, and then we can head over.â
Walker handed over the list to her and pushed the cart toward the cashier. Amityâs eyes bulged at the price after the items were run up.
As they headed for the door, she whispered, âThat was a huge buy. Where do you get that kind of money?â
âIâm a bull rider, remember? I ride hard and make some money to meet my needs.â
âMaybe I should start riding. Eight seconds, a few times a week? Thatâs easy.â
Walker laughed, the sound setting off butterflies in her belly.
âHow about the frequent travels, lonely nights on the road?â
âThatâs easy.â Biting air hit Amityâs face as they stepped out into the open and headed for his truck. After having the goods packed in, he returned the cart to the carousel.
âShall we?â
âYeah.â
They walked side by side into the grocery store and repeated the same process, shopping for vegetables, fruits and other food items. âAre you sure you still have money for all this?â
âFor food stuff and home upkeep, my brothers and brother-in-law have pitched in there.â
Grocery shopping completed within a short time and paid for, they headed back to the truck one more time. âYou guys are always supportive of each other. Itâs been Adriana and me forever. When I get married, I want a house full of kids.
